The Team
Who is Director Brinson-Provitt?
"Ms. Provitt represents all that is valued in an exemplary educator. Her rapport with students is among the most genuine and sincere I have observed in my educational career. Her overall expertise in curriculum and instruction is outstanding. Several days I observed her, I found myself not wanting to leave her classroom as her passion for teaching is apparent because she does not only teach English, but she teaches life lessons to her students. Not only does she teach them how to critically think, but the knowledge that she has outside the classroom is what enables her students to get more than just the rigor in her classroom.
[Ms. Provitt taught 8th grade English for three years], both Honors and traditional courses. She cares so much for the students and ensures success in and out of the classroom and wants the kids to become lifelong learners. Ms. Provitt is able to handle difficult parent situations with grace and will always do what she feels is in the best interest for the child. Ms. Provitt is respected by her colleagues, students, and parents because of her effective communication skills and willingness to always help.
Ms. Provitt worked...dedicating 2 hours a day to helping students struggling in English and those students that were not on grade level. She was a mentor teacher to one of our new teachers this year, as well as being a teacher mentor of a student teacher from ASU that she had to spend multiple extra hours supporting outside of the classroom.
Ms. Provitt has displayed a level of integrity that will serve her well in the future....She is always willing to find opportunities to make herself a better teacher and leader." - Dr. B. Aarestad, Principal, (2018)

"She has the ability to inspire students to achieve their potential and I am confident that she will continue her positive influence on students.
Mrs. Provitt has a wonderful rapport with the students and faculty. She has an extraordinary ability to connect with her students and make them feel comfortable to communicate both in writing and in person. When the pandemic came upon us and we went virtual, Mrs. Provitt didn't bat an eye and became a leader in the school for digital resources and presentation. She has excellent communication skills and this is evidenced when examining her success in creating strong parent-teacher relationships or connecting with students that require more assistance." - W. Connor, Principal (2021)
"She is dedicated to the welfare of our students, and she exhibits high performance that portrays her as an asset to out academic program. She is always on task, and she sets high goals for her students, encouraging them to achieve those goals. Her objectives are clearly stated and correlate with the agenda that she sets forth in her lesson plans. One may enter [her] class and find a warm, attractive, academic setting, including bulletin boards, posters, and supplementary materials that depict a relationship to whatever topic she is teaching. Students are always working hard in order to achieve expected goals in writing and literature assignments. [She] also assisted students in preparation for SAT testing in language and reading competencies.
Ms. Brinson serves as a role model for her students because she is always professional, highly articulate, and caring. Her students seem to understand that she expects them to reach their highest foals, and they work toward that effect." -A. Asfaw, Assistant Principal (2000)

"I have had the privilege to work and worship with at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church for four years. In her role as Director of the daycare and youth advisor, I observed her personal habits, creativity and leadership. Quickly, I learned that Ms. Brinson is a person with strong work ethic and commitment who strived for excellence in all of the endeavors. Upon joining our church family, s. Brinson became immediately involved, sharing her time and talents wherever needed. Ms. Brinson's intelligence, ingenuity and tenacity was apparent when I asked her to write a Christmas play for the children to perform. The play was very detailed and well-thought out and exhibited the intended message to the congregation. Since 2001, Ms. Brinson has written several plays for Easter, Christmas, Black History, Mother's Day and Father's Day, all of which were top-quality and inspirational." -T. White, Youth Advisor (2005)

"Benise is a responsible teacher and a fine person. The command for excellence that I have seen in Benise, in addition to her drive to obtain personal goals towards educational achievement, is extraordinary. She is very organized and conscientious in her professional life and her personal life.
Benise demonstrates more motivation and industriousness than most people. No one is more aware than she of what it takes to help her students to succeed. Benise will stay any task until it is completed and she understands the concepts involved. She is not content just to get the job completed. She strives to understand the shy behind the situation." -L. Taffet, Director (2006)
"Although she was no longer the ELA Department Head when I arrived, she was...respected and treated as a valuable resource for the ELA department. She [was] mentor to new teachers in the school and a trusted colleague to those that are veterans in the school. Her rapport with students and staff is commendable. She even sends out words of encouragement to her colleagues in times of stress, like the Pandemic.
She even creates a newsletter that provides answers and information every parent and student needs. Yes, Mrs. Provitt knows how to build strong relationships. she knows how to teach students to turn failure and frustration into success and triumph." -R. Morris, II, Assistant Principal (2022)

Because of her dependability, the teachers know that Benise [as a substitute teacher] will make sure every subject is taught correctly.

C. Darrington, Colleague
Ms. Brinson is a wonderful, sincere, very knowledgeable and experienced teacher that gives her all to the students. She has written several pieces that I believe are more than worthy of being published for the enjoyment of the reading public. She exemplifies what poet laureates should, in my estimation, become.
